Monday, August 25, 2003 + House Warming Party +

I've moved house again - my blog that is.

I'd like to think of it as symbolic, a new blog for every new stage that life leads me through. I had http://rockerzgurl.blogspot.com when I was in London. Then it was http://lexia02.diaryland.com for when I was at NIE. And now that I'm out working -permanently- for the first time in my life, there is this - purple book. Why purple book?

I've liked the colour blue since I was 11 or 12. And that was due to this one character from David Eddings' 'Belgariad', a sorceress known as Polgara. She was everything that meant 'cool' to me. She was strong, stubborn, loving, sacarstic, 'streetwise', loved, feared, revered, humble, proud, knowing, powerful, powerless, resistant, flexible, unpredictable and reliable all at once. And she loved the colour blue. So, young and bewildered as I was, so did I. I loved blue for years, and gradually mellowed into the warmer and less commanding colour of purple when I was 20 or so. My students would say that purple is a sexually deprived colour - to which I violently disagree of course. But while I try not to be sexist in any way (neither am I a feminist, well I guess I like being a fence-sitter) I do raise an eyebrow at guys who claim to like purple - especially the lighter shades of the colour.

Why book? I love books. I'd rather spend $300 on building my library of books and CDs than on some branded handbag, makeup or clothes. Books fascinate me - an unread book is like an unsolved mystery. Books that have already been read are like planar portals which bring you back to something familiar yet foreign.

The previous two incarnations of my blog were sadly under utilized and I hope that this new one won't be so. But I'm not sorry for having kept them - barely surviving as they were. When I have the time I re-read what I wrote in those blogs. Most of the time I can't help laughing at what I wrote and feel ashamed at sounding so young and silly. But I guess we all go through that. We live in the moment and never stop growing. So I'm sure a few years down the line, I will read this blog and feel silly too.

Anyway I will try my very best to make this blog more successful and less neglected that my previous 2 ones. Silly or not. :)
